Last Day of School-Emma

Emma had her last day of school today.  She was so excited because it was water play  day and she asked to wear her bathing suit to school.  So in all the excitement, we arrived a bit early. While we waited, Emma drove us to Colorado and wanted a photo with "her" donkey. Then we headed off to class.

At pick up time we were also early. So Sadie and Neela watched from outside the gate, while Emma's class shivered and Emma played in the kiddie pool, as if it was 80 rather than 62 out this afternoon.  She had lots of fun with water and shaving cream.

After water play and dry clothes were back on, the kids had their circle time with some music and dancing.  Everyone was having fun once again.

Backyard campout

Last Saturday Nicole and Neela came over for a camp out, in our back yard.  We had tents, ribs and corn on the cob, and smores.  Emma has really wanted to go camping again and so we set up this little mock camping trip.  Of course, it was not quite as exciting as the wilderness, no snakes or scorpions.  But our place did include indoor plumbing, showers, a stove and a refridgerator, and most importantly... real beds if it was freezing or raining or too hard in the tent.  (Ok, so I am wimpy and even more so because of my "condition" at the moment.)The girls had fun in the tents, playing and not sleeping. In fact about 1045 pm, Emma gave up and came in the house with her pillow and headed into her "real bed", away from Sadie and Neela, who shortly there after finally fell asleep as well.  There were very few pictures taken of the event, maybe because we were too lazy.  Camping is work, camping at home is so much easier!

Fishing with Papa

After lots of casting practice around the house, including getting the lines caught in the power lines and every tree in the back yard, Papa took Sadie and Emma out for some real fishing.  They all caught one fish. Success.

Friday, Beach Clean Up

Sadie is studying Mare(the ocean) in science right now, so they had an ocean theme field trip on Friday, sponsered by Ocean Minded.  We scoured the beach for trash, had lunch and visited the tide pools.  All the kids had lots of fun and the adults came away with smiles as well.

I loved the contrast of Emma in her white dress against this back drop.

I have been through these tide pools many times as a kid and an adult, but watching and hearing the excitement of all these kids was quite fun.

World Language Day and Naps in the office

Last Wednesday was the World Language Program's Fiesta Lunch at school.  The local high school Mariachi group came to perform after the first graders sang their songs.  Unfortunately, the program was also saying "thank you" and good bye to the three wonderful teachers who lead the program, lost as a result of budget cuts.  This year, the kids studied Spanish everyday in class.  Emma and I went over to hear the songs and join Sadie for lunch, the girls loved the music and seeing it played.

Emma was waiting for me to finish paying bills... needless to say, it was not too exciting.
