Shakespeare for three somethings

We are coming home from a walk and there is a neighbor walking his black lab in front of us. As we get closer he notices us coming up and pulls his dog off the sidewalk so we can pass. The dog pants and lounges toward us as we pass. The neighbor tells his dog to stop. We continue to walk by and the dog continues to do his hyper dog thing, neighbor continues to tell him stop. Once we are past and on our way, Sadie asks why the man was telling his dog to stop and why was she not able to pet the dog. I tell her that the dog was pulling on the leash and he was not supposed to and that this dog probably was not used to kids and might jump up and knock her down. Sadie's response, holding her head and being extra dramatic" OH, No! That would be terrible!! I would not like that!" I laugh, she asks why. We continue on our walk home.
___________

Something I will soon forget even though I tell myself not to.

Tonight we went to Mike's ice cream after dinner. After finishing our cones, we walked for a bit down a little back path. Emma held Sadie's hand and they both squealed with glee at the fun they were having. Who could imagine holding hands and walking could be so exhilarating? We stopped to watch birds and planes and to point at the moon. Emma and Sadie decided it would be fun to chase after me and try to squeeze through my legs while I was walking. I would stop and let them both thru and start all over again. Happy little girls giddy at the world around.

ZZOOOOOMMMMM!

That was the sound of this week flying by. Let's review:

Monday: Get everyone up and out to take Nathan to the train because my car is still beginning attended to at the dealer. Come home, all of us eat breakfast and the clock is still not to 9:00 yet. (This does not happen often in this house)Get a call from a mom with an invite for meeting at the park and pizza around 1130am. Put off the grocery shopping and get ready for the park. We some how make it to the park and find our friends. We play and climb and do other park stuff. Another school family arrives and after a bit more playing, we head off for a walk to the pizza joint. For you SoCal folk, think taco shop but when you look up at the menu over the counter you see pizza, submarines, calzone, and stromboli. Anyway, we eat and walk back to the park, take a lap around the pond without any children falling in and eventually drive back home where I find a biz card from a local police officer explaining that my wallet has been turned into the Peapack Police. So I get back in the car, with children still sleeping after totally exhausting day to the same place I had just been to pick up my wallet. Find Police Dept wake Sadie who goes into a fit of rage because she has to wake up. Sooth her with the promise of a drink from the soda machine. Retreive wallet, buy soda, head back to the car. Drive home, pick up Nathan from the train station, go out to eat... blah blah, blah.

Tuesday:
School day. Usual morning. We walk to school this time for the first time, but we are running late so actually Sadie runs to school in order to keep up with me. In my mind I worry that she will be too tired at school but when I return to pick her up she seems unfazed and proceeds to play on the playground for another hour after school. We head of to the grocery and then go home to make dinner, etc.

Wednesday:
Everyone sleeps in until, get this, 1015am!!!Well, with the exception of Nathan. So we eat breakfast and head off to the park. Sadie hopes that Sarah, a friend from school, will be there but she is not when we arrive. We play for quite a bit before I notice Sarah's mother and so a grand reunion insues with hugs all around for the girls. They play and play and play before I realize that I totally forgot about SWIMMING! Oh no! I rangle Sadie away from all the friends and tell her about swimming so she quickly says her goodbyes and runs to the car. We zip in the house to change and make sandwiches and off we go to the Y. We make it with a few minutes to spare. Today Sadie swims with (tada) a LIFE VEST! She was very excited to tell me all about it and how she was able to swim all by herself. Another exciting day. We end with a short walk over the bridge to the river and back, Sadie riding her little pink big wheel.

Thursday:
School day again. We are up a bit late and do our normal routine. Then walk to school again, Sadie running most of the way. Play on the playground after school for a bit, then we head off to the mall for a new pair of "running shoes" for Sadie. She saw an ice cream shop on the way to the store and in her sweet little voice asked if she could have a cone. How could I resist? She is probably starving since she burns about 1000 calories an hour, so of course I say yes. And Emma is happy too because she gets to have many licks of Sadie's cone. After she finally finishes her cone, she runs around the shoe dept testing a couple of pair before deciding on what she wanted, or rather what I thought was best. We walk around looking here and there, in and out of a few shops and then on our way to the car, Sadie decides to launch into one of her long songs that can be quite loud. Once we walk into Bloomingdales I shush her a bit but of course her singing voice can only go so low. But she was singing about how you get to the Statue of Liberty, which has been a common theme of her songs lately, so I continued to shush her but she was so cute that I did not think to make her stop. Then there was a picture of the statue in the store and she was just so excited to see it there.

And now we are to Friday, which has not started yet but Nathan is off and playing golf in the early am with Mark so it seems as if the long weekend has already started. Hopefully we can make time slow down a bit and get a good deal of our projects completed during the time. We are invited to a picnic at a neighbors on Sunday afternoon and other than that we have no plans.

Happy Memorial Day!

Wonderful and other words

Rainy days with sick kids. That is what this week consisted of, not too exciting. Both girls came down with colds over the weekend and Sadie ended up with an ear infection, so no school or swimming this week. We went out for walks a couple of the afternoons to break up the duldrum of being indoors and watching noggin. I think we have used about 1000 kleenex tissues this week as well. Yes, if you think this post is dull so far then you will begin to understand the dullness of our week. Meanwhile, I am totally exhausted, from doing nothing much I guess.

Emma has said Sadie and her own name when looking at pictures. She makes the funniest noise when you ask what a cow says. It is sort of a combination of "brr" and "oooooo". And it is the same sound a dog makes.
Some of you may remember that Emma likes to climb things, so currently she thinks it is really fun to stand on a little foot stool we have in the middle of the tv room. She just stands there and looks around, seeming quite proud of herself.

There has been a bunny visiting our garden lately, mostly eating the grass and weeds in the lawn, but the other day we spied her out the kitchen window digging up the grass. At first I thought she was digging a burrow and then maybe a nest and then we just could not figure out what she was up to. She ended up hopping off the another spot in the grass to nibble and went on her merry way. So now we have a nice large hole in the lawn thanks to a little bunny.

"Wonderful", "lovely","actually", Sadie has been putting together new words and phrases that are really quite funny coming from an almost four year old mouth. She can be quite entertaining with the things she says although I must say that it seems to be a constant stream with an unending flow of babble at times and I find myself wishing that she could keep some of it inside. Most of what she has to say begins with "Mama" and she will not continue without an acknowledgement of her needing to tell me something. She will continue to say "mama" over and over until I say "what sadie" and then she begins into her explaination or an extremely complicated barage of questions. The four year old brain has learned to express all the thoughts that float around in that mind and I think there may not be an end in sight.

We planted some sunflowers over the weekend and the seeds cannot sprout fast enough for Sadie. She asked many times that same day to see if they were growing yet. On the other hand our peas are quite tall already and I hope the flowers will start soon. I know the promise of peas will be exciting for our little horticulturalist. She has been finding seeds everywhere and asking if we can plant them in our "yet to be raised" bed. We were at dinner and she saved a lemon seed from my water, tonight she found a raspberry seed in her frozen yogurt popcicle, but how do you explain that neither of these things generally are grown from seeds and they most likely won't sprout?

Last Thurday we found a caterpillar and Sadie took it into class to show everyone because they were learning about caterpillars and butterflies. When we picked it up to take home it had started to spin some silk for its cocoon. But of course Sadie took the lid off of the jar that was holding it and began to poke it. She put the lid back on after a brief explanation about why we needed to leave Mr Caterpillar alone so he could build his cocoon. And now he has been wrapped up in his comfy little wrap for a week now. We are waiting and hoping to see him emerge as a beautiful butterfly so we can let him go to find a nice flower to drink from.

Thanks for the visit.

Below are some pics from our visit with Annie and Robbie over this past week. We really enjoyed having them here!

Currently, at this very moment, Sadie and Robbie are singing together while Sadie strums the guitar. The songs coming from them are quite funny. I wish I could record and play some on here but that would require me moving and trying to find the video camera and then figuring out how to edit them down and that whole thought is keeping me from it all. Sorry. Some of the subjects of the songs are:
seagulls, a man named Murray and a girl named Marie, hippotamisses and hippotamisters, how you get to new york city...
It is quite hilarious.

Time for palabra jot

I have not written a post with more than two sentences in quite some time so I am sorry to those of you who tend to click over here once (or more!) a day. Anywho...I feel like nothing has been happening that is anything monumental but I guess this is just a list of everyday things that may or may not interest most of the reading audience. Blah, blah blah. Let me think for a moment...

We have some peas and carrots giving their all to sprout and do what carrots and peas do. They are succeeding as far as I can tell. The peas all of the sudden sprouted and put out some leaves already, I can't wait for those little tendrils to start reaching for the sky. A few of the carrots have sprouted their first real leaves and I hope they keep going. I have all sorts of seeds that we have picked out whenever we are out and see a seed stand so I really need to get this raised bed raised. Sadie asks regularly when we can plant the pumpkin seeds and I have to tell her not until we have the garden ready. I think she is growing impatient but the sight of peas and carrots growing is keeping her attention. Also I have a whole new front walk garden area in my head and I told Nathan about it and he seems to be all for it so now I have some summer gardening projects to work on. Sadie loves helping too so she will enjoy it all as well. Now I just need to get started!

Already we are one month away from Sadie finishing her first year of school. I can hardly believe it! We have a Mothers and Tea day coming up the end of next week and so they are all busy creating items for the special day. Sadie is also busy with swimming and she really loves it. Jen (her teacher), commented that she is so daring when it comes to trying something new within the class and asked if she was like that with everything. I think we have another fish in the making. Her favorite thing from class is monster jumps. She jumps into the pool from a standing position without holding hands and catches the teachers hands once she hits the water. She asks to do it at the end of every class.

As for Emma, she is figuring out how do to everything Sadie does. She has a few new words, she can point to her eye when you ask her where it is. She is trying to make sounds of animals after hearing you make the sound first. She says hot and blows on her food. And she learned how to blow out one of those birthday blowers tonight. So many little things that I can't remember them all but I am amazed at all she learns every day. Also I think she would really like to do a monster jump into the big swimming pool with Sadie!

We finished painting the family room water04 and refinished the mantel. Now the mantel is a distressed white and we love it! We are both really happy with how everything turned out. Of course, it makes me want to paint every room. So I am sure there will be more new colors around in the future.

Nathan is off to Italy on Friday and will be home Tuesday. Annie and Robbie will be out here visiting this weekend as well. I think that is the news for now.
